The company wanted to remind their nationwide work force of 24,000 employees of their importance to the success of the company, and to motivate them to improve performance and cut costs. To personalize the campaign, the advertiser selected the theme, "One Person Can Make a Difference". A special logo was developed for the program to be used with the following slogans: "Number One in Energy Savings", "Number One in Savings," "Number One in Quality," These program goals were imprinted on various advertising specialties including, buttons, T-shirts, bumper stickers, neckties, lapel pins and Necklaces.
The campaign was featured in plant publications, on posters and in a slide presentation at company headquarters. At the end of the promotion 3,500 employees were awarded savings banks for becoming part of the "Best Operating Team." The company president said of the promotion, "We've seen costs reduced $7 million in reduced operating costs at two plants, problems solved and ideas put forth that have made a real difference in our performance." The company ended the year ranked number one in the aluminum industry on the basis of five key areas of performance: earnings per share, dividends per share, return on assets, return on equity, and total debt-equity ratio.
