Safety Myth - Busted!

Decrease Recordables
Myth:
The Bureau of labor Statistics reports all injuries and all illnesses together because companies are required to have information regarding employee days away from work, but not the reason. Illnesses account for over 25% of the reported days away from work.
Busted:
Wrong on all counts. The BLS incident rates include injuries and occupational illnesses and excludes routine sick days. Occupational illnesses account for approximately 6% of the total incidents reported.*

*Statistics are for non fatal injuries and illnesses
